Tom Marland

Principal

Tom is the firm’s principal partner.

Tom specialises in rural property transactions, estate & succession planning, dispute resolution and litigation. Tom also represents landholders across Queensland faced with coal, gas and infrastructure development on their land.

Tom has earned the reputation as a tireless advocate for his clients and prides himself on delivering outcomes. Tom’s no nonsense approach allows him to provide practical advice in language and terms that clients can understand and implement.

Tom maintains a close association with his family’s cattle operation in the Gin Gin District and is passionate about the future of agriculture and regional Queensland.

Sharon Wratten

Practice Manager

Sharon is the firm’s practice and administration director.

She has a career spanning almost 30 years in legal and finance sectors. Sharon spent 8 years working in Brisbane for the Queensland Bar Association and high profile law firms. Since 2000 she has moved with her husband and children and lived in many rural communities including Mackay and Rockhampton before settling in Bundaberg.  This has given her an appreciation for farming and agriculture being the life blood of these communities.

Sharon is warm and friendly and always welcomes a chat.  She is client focused and strives to make all our clients feel at ease while delivering the highest standard of client care.

Bjorn Morrison

Solicitor

Bjorn is the firm’s senior lawyer and conveyancing specialist.

Bjorn has experience in rural conveyancing, wills and estates, commercial agreements and litigation and is constantly expanding the areas of law that he works in.

Having a broad range of interests, experience and abilities also means Bjorn handles the IT needs for Marland Law.

Bjorn was admitted to the Supreme Court of Queensland in 2018. He has previously worked for the then Federal Department of Communications, Information Technology, Arts and Sport, Creative Commons Australia and Sega Studios Australia.

Stephen White

Solicitor

Stephen is the firm’s criminal and administrative law specialist as well as a skilled civil litigator.

Stephen has over 30 years of experience in heavy industry as an indentured tradesman, diesel mechanic heavy vehicles, and mechanical engineer. He currently maintains status as a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) and Registered Professional Engineer Queensland (RPEQ) and is a qualified welder and welding supervisor (Weld Australia). He has held senior managerial and engineering positions within the: mining and resources, power generation and alumina industries within Australia.

Stephen is admitted to practise as a solicitor in Queensland and the High Court of Australia and practises in all areas of law specialising in: criminal law, administrative law, civil litigation and matters involving complex engineering issues.

Stephen holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) from Victoria University, a Bachelor of Laws from CQU and a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practise from The College of Law.

Judy Plath

Client Liaison

Judy is the firm’s client liaison.

Judy Plath is an agricultural scientist who has worked with farmers in the Wide Bay region for many years. Judy is a member of a farming family near Childers and has seen firsthand the importance of secure irrigation water supplies for agriculture.

Judy is passionate about supporting farmers in their efforts to feed our nation and is dedicated to supporting farmers who have been affected by the Government’s decision to lower Paradise Dam.
